Keeping your caravan’s gas appliances safe, efficient, and reliable
A gas appliance service in a static caravan is all about making sure your heating, hot water, and cooking appliances are running safely and efficiently.
Because caravans use LPG bottles, fixed ventilation and lightweight flue systems, regular servicing is especially important.
Here’s what the engineer does during a service:
1. A Full Visual Check Of The Appliance
The engineer looks over the appliance and surrounding area to make sure everything is in good condition. They check for:
• Wear and tear
• Damage or corrosion
• Loose or worn seals
• Signs of leaks or poor combustion
This helps spot issues before they become problems.
2. Cleaning The Important Internal Parts
To keep the appliance running smoothly and efficiently, the engineer cleans:
• Burners & Injectors
• Heat exchangers
• Filters and lint traps
• Condensate traps (for boilers)
A clean appliance runs better, lasts longer, and uses less gas.
3. Checking How The Appliance Burns Gas
The engineer checks the flame and makes sure the appliance is burning LPG safely and efficiently. This helps prevent carbon monoxide risks and keeps your running costs down.
4. Testing All Safety Devices
Every appliance has built in safety features. The engineer checks that:
• Ignition systems work properly
• Flame failure devices shut the gas off correctly
• Overheat and safety thermostats respond as they should
• Fans and sensors (where fitted) are working correctly
These checks ensure the appliance will shut down safely if something goes wrong.
5. Flue And Ventilation Checks
Static caravans rely on fixed ventilation and lightweight flue systems. The engineer checks that:
• The flue is clear and removing fumes safely
• Vents are the correct size and not blocked
• There is enough fresh air for safe operation
This is essential for preventing carbon monoxide build up.
6. Performance And Gas Supply Checks
The engineer checks:
• Gas pressures
• Gas rate (how much gas the appliance uses)
• LPG supply to the appliance
• Regulator condition (if relevant to the appliance)
This ensures the appliance is running at its best.
7. Reassembly And Final Operation Check
Once everything has been cleaned and tested, the engineer puts the appliance back together and checks that it’s working smoothly.
The engineer will also let you know if any repairs or parts are needed.
