Your Static Caravan Gas Supply – Important Customer Notice
Purging Gas
During routine work, your gas supply may be turned off. When you return, your appliances may not light straight away — this is normal and simply means the gas needs purging.
Turning your gas back on after being away
When your gas bottles or supply have been turned off for any length of time, the gas pipework inside your caravan fills with air. Before your appliances can light properly, this air must be pushed out. This process is called purging and is completely normal.
What you need to do
1. Turn your gas supply on
Open the valves on your gas bottles fully and check your changeover valve is set correctly.
2. Purge the gas supply
The easiest way to purge the gas is by lighting the hob.
Steps:
Turn on one hob ring. It may take several seconds before the gas reaches the burner.
The burner may splutter or try to light a few times — this is normal.
Once the flame burns steadily, the pipework is purged.
Repeat with other hob rings if needed.
3. Check your other appliances
Once the hob is burning normally:
Try the boiler (you may need to reset your boiler).
Try the oven, fire, or water heater.
They should now ignite normally.
If your appliances still won’t light
Common causes include:
Empty gas bottles.
Bottle valves not fully open.
Changeover valve set incorrectly.
Appliance needs further purging.
If appliances still fail to light, stop trying and contact us on 01262 673012.
